Sea Gulls Lose to Mounties, 5-3
|
The Hamilton Mounties topped the Duluth Sea Gulls, 5-3, in Canadian action at Harbour Field. The standout performance belonged to Hamilton pitcher and Pickering, Canada, native Lewis MacEwen. MacEwen, now 2-3, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 2, walking 4, and allowing 3 runs. Juan Sánchez picked up the save for Hamilton, his 6th of the year.
Aaron Bennett was 1-3 for Hamilton. The six-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Tom Williams. It was his 16th RBI of the season.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Hamilton manager Al Borie. "It's usually not just one thing."
The Mounties go to 12-26 with the win.
