Moreno, Comets Shut Out Caribou, 4-0
Saturday, June 4th , 2039
The Thunder Bay Caribou were almost helpless today in their 4-0 loss to the Kingston Comets and hurler Manuel Moreno. Moreno kept the Caribou confused all game, spinning a 1-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Moreno," Thunder Bay manager Robert Larmer said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 29-year-old left-hander had 1 walk and 5 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Moreno said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
This season Moreno has chalked up no saves, notched a 3-4 record with a 3.06 ERA, allowed 59 hits in his 67.2 innings of work, struck out 59 and walked 13. Opponents are hitting .240 against the Kingston hurler.
