
On October 4, 2054, the Traverse City Bears organization called a news conference in the Bears’ offices at The Den. Gathering reporters at first thought that the news was going to be about rumoured upgrades to the ballpark over the winter. These thoughts were quickly dispelled when three people entered the conference room. Pedro Morales entered, flanked by team owner Jason Kelly and the General Manager. Optimists hoped that Morales would announce his return in 2055 for his 25th season in a Bears uniform. Pessimists feared that the news would be bad. The pessimists were correct.
Pedro Morales read a prepared statement announcing that he had played his final GLBL game and that he was retiring from professional baseball. He further announced that he would remain with the club in a number of capacities, including working with the players both in spring training and at home during the regular campaign.
