Mounties Earn 6-4 Win Versus Duluth
|
The Hamilton Mounties had to overcome a big game from Duluth designated hitter Jerry Wickett to leave Sea Gulls Field with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-4. Wickett was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Sam Goerts got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The Mounties are off to an underwhelming start as they look to defend their championship, notching only their 7th win in 17 games.
Howard Mathieu was 1-4. He drove in 2 runs for Hamilton. The 23-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the fifth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring single off Bill Lutz. It was his 10th hit of the season.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Mathieu told the Hamilton Daily News.
