Comets Beaten By Mounties, 9-7
|
The Hamilton Mounties overcame a good performance by Kingston catcher Eugene Martínez to knock off Kingston, 9-7, at Harbour Field. Martínez was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Wilford Ferguson snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 2 hits over 2.1 innings. He's now 1-3 on the season. Wally Howard closed out the game, earning his 13th save.
Had Howard Mathieu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Mathieu hit a 2-run single. That made the score 7-5, in favor of the Mounties.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Mathieu.
Hamilton is now 23-26, Kingston 22-27.
