Neptunes Victorious at Chicago, 13-6
|
Pier IV Grounds was the site for USA action featuring the Chicago Architects and Toledo Neptunes.
Neptunes shortstop Rick Blackmore put his stamp on his team's 13-6 win over the Chicago Architects. Blackmore went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for Toledo in the contest. Jay Bryant, who finished 3rd in the USA in wins with 11 in 2049, was the winner. He's now 4-5. The loser was Al Pellerin.
Dusty Murphy had a big solo home run for the Neptunes in the top of the fourth inning. With Toledo leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a fastball from Al Pellerin, who is tied for 2nd in the USA with a 9.8 K/9 rate, and punished it. The result was his 23rd home run of the season, which put the Neptunes on top, 2-0.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Bill Atteberry.
Toledo raised its record to 41-28 with the win.
