Toledo Dispatched, 6-3, by Detroit
|
Due in large part to designated hitter Art Loder, the Detroit Thunderbirds sunk the Toledo Neptunes, 6-3. Loder was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 runs. Dwayne Miller, the winner, is now 4-7. He struck out 7 and walked 1 over 7.2 innings, while allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Joey Albright was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 20 save opportunities.
Stan Gillis had a big run-scoring double for the Thunderbirds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Cliff Simpson, who finished 2nd in the CAN in ERA with 2.03 in 2046, and swatted a double to left. It was his 30th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Thunderbirds ahead, 2-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Gillis.
The Thunderbirds improved their record to 34-44 by beating Toledo.
