The Traverse City Bears withstood a fine game by Detroit right fielder Stan Gillis at The Den, to upend the Thunderbirds, 4-3. Gillis belted 2 home runs. Walt Marcotte was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 3 runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Detroit has now lost 5 straight.

Ben Marshall had a big run-scoring double for the Bears in the bottom of the third inning. With Traverse City leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from Augusto González, who is tied for 7th in the USA with a 8.2 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bears ahead, 4-2.
