Bears Win, Braud goes 4-for-5
|
Riding the 4-hit performance of the 2051 Lake Huron Rookie Award winner Cal Braud, the Traverse City Bears defeated the Hamilton Mounties, 9-1. Walt Marcotte got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. The Bears, at 38-51, sit in 5th place in the South of the Border.
With Traverse City leading 6-1 in the bottom of the eighth, Braud came up to bat against Hamilton pitcher Joe Cain. Braud hit a fastball to left for a 3-run home run. His 10th home run of the season put the Bears on top, 9-1.
"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Al Borie.
