Waveriders Stumble, Lose to Caribou
The Thunder Bay Caribou beat the Owen Sound Waveriders, 8-4, at Caribou Field. The Caribou got a fine performance from shortstop John Calder, who went 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Thunder Bay reliever Nick Tate was the winner. His record is now 7-4. The losing pitcher was Jake Austen. The Waveriders, at 74-65, have lost 4 in a row.

The Waveriders had been locked in a 4-4 tie with the Caribou going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick Joe Becker came to the plate. Becker hit a 2-run home run on a 3-1 fastball from Owen Sound hurler Jake Austen. It was Becker's 2nd home run of the year.

"Winning is contagious," said Calder. "We're looking forward to the next game."
