Eagles Score Late, Top Architects, 4-3
|
The Milwaukee Eagles picked up a win at The Nest, topping the Chicago Architects, 4-3. On the mound for Milwaukee was right-hander Yale Hulbert. He played a principal role in the triumph. The winner was Milwaukee reliever Gregg Powell, now 4-1. The loser was Joe Cain. The 4th-place Eagles go to 22-24.
Had Jim Harris not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Harris hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Eagles.
"Bottom line," said Chicago skipper DD Martin, "we didn't play well enough to win."
