Maples Pull Out Late-Game Win, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Toronto Maples and the Thunder Bay Caribou, pitcher Motoyuki Inoue was the difference between victory and defeat. The Toronto right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Maples win. Inoue got the win, improving to 6-3. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. He allowed 2 runs. The third-place Caribou have lost 4 straight games.
Had Henry Wilkerson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Wilkerson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Maples.
"It feels good to get this one," Wilkerson told the Toronto Gazette.
